This mastery of the ripening process becomes concrete thanks to a surprising technique: ripening an avocado in just 10 minutes. The method relies on using the oven, an appliance present in all kitchens. Simply wrap the avocado in aluminum foil and place it at a moderate temperature (about 90-100°C) for this short period.
Heat accelerates the production of ethylene, the plant hormone responsible for fruit ripening. This process, naturally spread over several days, is thus compressed into a few minutes. The avocado develops a texture soft enough to be consumed, although the flavor remains slightly less pronounced than with traditional ripening.
This technique is perfectly suited for culinary emergencies: last-minute guacamole preparation, improvised salad, or breakfast toast. The aluminum foil preserves the fruit’s moisture during cooking, preventing it from drying out.
