Three steps to try before calling a locksmith

If your key fob stops responding, start with the simplest option: locate the release slider on the side or back of the fob, extract the hidden metal key, and use it to unlock the driver’s door manually. This works regardless of battery level or signal issues.

If you are already inside but the engine will not start on a push-to-start vehicle, press the fob directly against the start button or steering column. The built-in RFID chip does not need battery power and should be detected by the car’s system. Check your vehicle manual for the exact contact point on your model.

For a weak-battery situation where you need just enough signal to unlock the doors remotely, hold the fob under your chin with the buttons facing outward and press.
