Say goodbye to chemical sprays and try these safe, natural tricks to keep cockroaches out of your home. Using banana peels and common pantry ingredients, you can create effective traps and repellents overnight—no toxic fumes, no risk to your family’s health.
Natural Banana Peel Trap for Cockroaches
Instead of harmful chemicals, use banana peels to lure cockroaches:
- Cut banana peels into small pieces and place them in a shallow container.
- Add a little salt and detergent, then mix well.
- Put the trap in areas cockroaches frequent, like under the sink or behind cabinets.
- Overnight, the banana peel will attract cockroaches, while the salt and detergent dehydrate and suffocate them.
Other Simple Cockroach Repellents
1. Soap Solution
Mix 20 ml of liquid soap with 500 ml of water and stir. Spray the solution along baseboards, under cupboards, or directly where cockroaches roam. Soap clogs their breathing pores, killing them quickly.
2. Citrus Peels
Dry peels of oranges, lemons, or grapefruits and place them where cockroaches are commonly seen. The strong citrus scent naturally repels them.
3. Onions and Garlic
- Sprinkle garlic powder in corners and cracks to deter cockroaches.
- For a stronger repellent, crush onions and garlic, mix with a spoonful of garlic powder and a bit of water, then spray the mixture in cockroach hotspots.
- Alternatively, chop onions and garlic finely, mix with black pepper, and place on small plates in problem areas.
4. Baking Soda and Sugar
Mix baking soda and sugar in a 1:1 ratio. Place small amounts in corners and near drains. Sugar attracts cockroaches, while baking soda causes fatal bloating and dehydration. Place a small dish of water nearby to speed up the process.
For drains, dissolve a tablespoon of baking soda in hot water and pour it down to keep cockroaches from climbing up pipes.
Quick Tips for Maximum Effect
- Check and refresh traps every few days.
- Keep your kitchen and trash areas clean to prevent new infestations.
- Seal cracks and entry points to block future access.
