The acclaimed stage and film actor died in New York on Tuesday following cardiac arrest.
His manager, Sue Leibman, and his family confirmed the news of his passing.
Yulin’s film credits include the role of Judge Stephen Wexler in Ghostbusters II (1989), the magistrate presiding over the ghost-busting team’s courtroom showdown, and Mel Bernstein in Scarface (1983), a corrupt Miami detective entangled with Tony Montana (Al Pacino) and the city’s criminal underworld.
Born November 5, 1937, in Los Angeles, Harris Yulin built a career spanning more than six decades.
He debuted on the New York stage in 1963 as the lead in James Saunders’ Next Time I’ll Sing To You. His Broadway career took off with Watch on the Rhine in 1980, leading to roles in Hedda Gabler, The Visit, The Price, and The Diary of Anne Frank.
Yulin’s first film appearance was as Wyatt Earp in Doc (1971), starring opposite Stacy Keach’s Doc Holliday.
He went on to appear in major films like Clear and Present Danger, Ghostbusters II, and Training Day.
On television, Yulin found success in series such as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, 24, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Entourage. His guest spot as Jerome Belasco on Frasier earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 1996.
He recently appeared in 12 episodes of the hit Netflix series Ozark (2018), and his final screen role was as Professor Dusselberg in the 2024 film Omni Loop, alongside Ayo Edebiri and Mary-Louise Parker.
In his personal life, Yulin dated Faye Dunaway in the early 1970s. He was married to actress Gwen Welles until her passing in 1993 and wed Kristen Lowman in 2005.
