I first discovered this unforgettable dish at a neighbor’s potluck. As with most gatherings, you expect a mix of hits and misses, but the ground beef with gravy atop mashed potatoes quickly became everyone’s favorite. My husband and I were hooked after one bite, and the buzz among the guests was all about the recipe. Juicy, full of flavor, and undeniably comforting—this dish stole the show.
After the event, I tracked down the talented chef, an experienced home cook with a friendly smile. She was delighted to pass along her beloved recipe, and I couldn’t wait to give it a try myself. The creamy mashed potatoes, topped with a robust, meaty gravy, instantly became a go-to comfort food in our home.
Now, I’m passing this treasure along, hoping your family enjoys it as much as ours does. Here’s how to create this crowd-pleasing meal from scratch.

Directions:
Prepare the mashed potatoes by placing the peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot, covering them with water, and adding a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer until fork-tender (about 20 minutes). Drain and return them to the pot, add milk and butter, and mash until creamy. Season with salt and pepper, and cover to keep warm.
For the beef and gravy, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until cooked through, then drain off any excess fat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes). Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste. Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits. Let the mixture simmer until it thickens (about 5 minutes). If you like, stir in the peas and carrots at the end. Season with salt and pepper to your taste.
