Chayote Lemon Clove Juice

As soon as you open the blender, the scent hits you slightly — lemon and cloves blend into something sharp, almost medicinal. You don’t make this juice for the pleasure of the taste. You make it because you’ve decided to take care of yourself, simply, with three ingredients you can find at any market. Ten minutes, no more.

Ingredients :

  • Chayote — The star of this juice. A light green vegetable, shaped like a slightly wrinkled pear, with white, crunchy flesh that vaguely reminds one of zucchini but less watery. Choose firm ones without soft spots. If you can’t find any, zucchini can work in a pinch, but the taste will be slightly different. Be careful to peel it gently — the skin is thin but slippery.
  • Lemons — Three classic yellow lemons. Squeeze them thoroughly; you need all their juice. Avoid bottled juice here — the taste is flat and the effect significantly less interesting. If your lemons seem small, take four.
  • Cloves — Five cloves, no more. It’s a powerful spice — beyond that, the juice becomes too peppery and hard to drink. Put them directly into the blender, whole. They blend well with the rest. No need to soak or prepare them otherwise.
